ABBAS CLOTHING
Senior Capstone Project
The creation of this brand references how my grandfather would call me Abbas when I was misbehaving. If I did something bad he would ask me “Did Abbas do that?” Essentially Abbas is my alter Ego. Another major aspect of my brand is the integration of both my cultures. Growing up in the U.S. with a mother that was raised by two Egyptians has had a major effect on me. Throughout my life I have struggled with issues with my community and identity. I created this brand for the people that have felt like they don’t have a community or, that they don’t “fit in” to one.
Garment creation
I made the clothing using indigo dye and stencils as well as, fabric ink and wooden stamps. I designed the stamps and created them using a laser cutter. Each one of my garments is hand made and no two are the same. The indigo dye collection was created based on a book I came across about the importance of indigo in the Arab world and more specifically in Egypt. The book is titled “Indigo in the Arab World” by Jenny Balfour-Paul.
Deliverables
For my final presentation the deliverables that I created for this project were, complete branding including logo, all of the clothing, a hand bound look-book, hand made posters printed on canvas, a website mockup, garment hang tags, and I also made the clothing rack and wooden display box seen in the photo.
